It contains necessary information for you to complete your application correctly. The form appended to this introductory letter is intended to be used by organizations in the Asia and Pacific Rim regions (not including North or South America) to request globally unique IP address space. Currently, the costs of allocating IP address space and maintaining the APNIC Internet registry is not recovered from requestors, thus, at this time, there is no charge for address allocations. However, due to the rapid growth in the popularity of the Internet and the lack of financial based limitations on address space consumption, the IANA has put in place constraints on how address space should be allocated in order to make more efficient use of the remaining IPv4 address space. In order to insure your request conforms to those constraints, it is important that you have read and understood, at a minimum, RFC 1466 (available from RFC archives around the world). In addition, the companion docu- ment to this allocation request form, APNIC-001, is intended to provide additional information which may be helpful while filling out this form. The APNIC IP Address Request form enclosed below is designed to be machine parsable in order to speed up the processing of IP address requests. Lines starting with #[ are used as section delimiters and should not be removed or altered. Applications which are not parsable will be forwarded to an APNIC staff member and may incur additional delays. After filling in the fields below, please transmit the completed form via electronic mail to ip-request@rs.apnic.net. Please allow one week for processing electronically submitted requests. You may also send the completed form to APNIC via fax, attention "APNIC Registration Services" to the fax number provided below. As a last resort, you may submit your request via postal mail to the address given below. Note APNIC Staff [Page 1] APNIC-002.2 February 1995 that submitting your request via fax or postal mail may result in signi- ficant delays. Submitting your request via email is vastly preferred and will result in the quickest response to your request. Sincerely, APNIC Registration Staff P.S. It is NOT necessary to include this cover letter when you return your request form. Asia Pacific Network Information Center c/o Internet Initiative Japan, Inc.
